Generating will
From HMCwiki
Generating will is accomplished when everyone in an organization has the same goals and objectives. People don't change for the fun of it. But they will embrace a fight to make a difference in something they are vested in. GE Six Sigma calls it a 'shared need'. It initiates momentum to engage hearts and hands to become different for the sake of a common cause. It is a line of sight to better strategy of delivering service.
Hospitals typically generate will by establishing a well-planned program that goes beyond executive-level conversations and systematically identifies opportunities for change, addresses obstacles to improvement and moves to action. It is critical that those who will be doing the work are engaged in the process from the beginning steps of root cause analysis to the final stages of action plan implementation. Generating will is not a process step; it is something that needs to be cultivated throughout the performance improvement cycle implementation so that it permeates the culture. Therefore, it needs to be clearly, consistently and constantly communicated throughout the organization.
